The God Protocol: Dragon by D.L. Wilburn Jr.

I tend to be eclectic in my tastes for all forms of artistic creation. I am a lover of rock music who grew up on bluegrass and enjoys folk, classical, alternative, etc. I cut my literary teeth on nonfiction in third grade and moved right into Tolkien a year later. I love sci-fi, fantasy, thrillers, you name it.

I have to say it’s been a while since I read something in any genre and experienced a true “wow” experience. I sat down and consumed The God Protocol: Dragon in a day. I could not put it down. I have so much to say, and I want to do it while it’s on my mind fresh.

D.L. Wilburn’s characters were very well crafted. I cared about all of them without feeling like I’d been beaten over the head with some directive. The entanglement with the various protagonists and supporting characters was a natural and extremely enjoyable process. His use of voice and POV was tremendous.

The story lines were followed wonderfully with a pacing and volume that kept me wanting more and yet constantly satisfied my need as I progressed. The story world that the author painted was excellent and clearly shows his grasp of our world at ground level as well as his understanding of geopolitical realities and potentialities. The cultural references and hooks to the peoples and places in the world were exciting; keeping me connected to things I knew while I learned about the new adventure he was crafting. Brilliant job!

As a lover of documentaries, history, science, and politics, I absolutely adore the work that the author has done on learning, absorbing, and dispersing bits and pieces of information and knowledge to the reader in consumable bites that yield an exquisite concoction of imminently believable outcomes. This was a feast for the mind, the spirit, and the fully immersed sci-fi nerd in all of us.

For my money, D.L. Wilburn has created a sci-fi story that is worthy of the classification while reaching out for new boundaries and ideas. I love it and I will be moving right along to the other two books in the trilogy.

Thank you, D.L. Wilburn, for such a wonderful, enjoyable, powerful read. BRAVO!!
